Great Deals for August

July 28th, 2016

July flew by faster than June did. August is a great month for deals. It’s heralding the end of the summer season, which means clearance sales galore. Kids start back at school which means even better back to school bargains. And it ends with a holiday weekend that will bring in big department store sales.

We didn’t find any freebies during our research. However, follow us on Facebook. If we find a freebie, we post it there.

Super Clearance Items

If there’s anything left from Spring, it should be on the buy one get six free rack (we kid, we kid). But you should be able to find amazing deals on anything left from Spring which can be used for the transitional weather in the autumn.

And as we near the end of the summer season, even retailers who don’t cater to back-to-school crowds will begin to get even more aggressive with their clothing discounts as they try to make room for autumn apparel. Look for base sales that take 40% to 70% off.

Back to school clothing should drop quite a bit. Last year retailers like American Eagle Outfitters and Levi’s slashed an extra 40% to 50% off sale items.

Don’t buy the new iPhone yet. If Apple sticks to its usual schedule, September and early October could see new models of the iPhone, iPad, and iPad mini. Based on deals last September, an iPhone 6 can drop as low as $50 and iPad Air 2 could price in at less than $359. Look for bargains from Apple resellers like Best Buy, Target, Walmart and eBay.

Look for Labor Day sales to creep into August. Last year, Labor Day deals began on August 7th with sitewide sales from travel sites Hotels.com and Orbitz. Each site discounted stays at select hotels throughout the country and combined it with stackable coupons taking an extra 5%-15% off the total cost. You may also find cheaper airfare near the end of August when college students start heading back to school.

Also, look for dorm room furniture. It can update a tween or teenager’s room at a lower cost. You can also find some great storage solutions for getting those rooms organized.

With the back to school craze, look for some great laptop sales. Most top of the line laptops work well on the prior Windows operating system. For the bast two summers, laptop prices drop an extra 8%-25% in August and early September.

Fun In the Sun

Now is the time to look into buying patio furniture, grills, smokers, barbecues, outdoor ovens, and just about anything to do with outdoor fun.

Look for the best deals during the Labor Day weekend. Some places start early and offer discounts as well as offering to pay the sales tax.

For patio furniture, look to stores like Home Depot, Sears, Walmart, and Target for discounts of up to 75% off. Also if you’re looking at Target, their Visa gives you an additional 5% off the price, and they have an app where you can get even more coupons that could be used towards the purchase.

For grills, check stores like Sears, Lowe’s, Target, and Walmart for discounts that knock up to 50% off. Also keep an eye out for coupons that slash an extra 10% to 15% off, as department stores are prone to releasing these codes around Labor Day weekend.

Also, now is the time to buy summer sporting goods like tennis rackets and camping equipment. Check out different stores for their prices and sales.

Food

The late summer harvest yields fruits such as apricots, blueberries, grapes, mangos, melons, nectarines, kiwi, peaches, plums, raspberries, strawberries, and watermelon, all of which will be ripe and cheap. Readily available vegetables include corn, cucumbers, bell peppers, beets, eggplant, green beans, green onions, lettuce, okra, radishes, summer squash, and tomatoes.

Just about everything you could want, right? Try cooking the fruit and vegetables on the new grill you bought.
