It’s time to start looking at your summer budget. Have you put aside money for a vacation? Or are you doing a lot of staycations?
If you’re headed out to exotic places, you can save a lot of money by vacationing in the Caribbean. June is the start of it’s hurricane season, and so the prices are lower. However, there’s less of a chance to have a big storm like later in the season. Because there could be bad weather, cruises and vacation packages are downright affordable.
But if you want to run to the Magic Kingdom in Florida, wait until August. The cheapest weekend to book a Disney-accessible hotel is in August, whereas the most expensive time is the last weekend of June. Waiting a few weeks means you could save as much as 23%.
We did find a freebie this month. June 6th is National Doughnut Day! Krispy Kreme and Dunkin’ Donuts offered a free doughnut for the past two years. (Only Krispy Kreme did so with no purchase necessary.)
Also, if you’re wanting to buy a new grill for Father’s Day, you may want to provide him with a coupon. The prices of new barbecues are still quite high. Look for some great deals around the 4th of July holiday weekend. Then take him out to a nice dinner. Many restaurants typically offer Father’s Day discounts on the day itself. Look for offers that include free entrees for Dad, or discounted extras like dessert.
Ladies, if you need to update your undies, you should find a lot of deals from major names like Victoria’s Secret this month.
For technology, hold off on Apple products because they have their developer’s conference in early June, and it takes awhile for the deals to filter through. Also, there are rumors of a cheaper mac about to be introduced which could restructure their entire pricing strategy.
Also hold off on buying a television as the prices tend to stay higher during these months. If you find yourself in dire need of a new HDTV, your best alternative would be to look at off-brand 42″ TVs, which have averaged about $324 for the past two months. (By comparison, their name-brand counterparts are going for roughly $389.) If you want to be an early adopter, look into the new 4k technology. The 55″ Seiki SE55UY04 (which debuted in November at $1,500) is hands-down the cheapest big-screen 4K TV DealNews tracked to date.
Touchscreen laptops are also great deals right now if you’re trying to decide whether to get a laptop, notebook, or tablet.
The XBox One should be cheaper because they’re still losing in the race against Sony. And we should finally see some better package deals with the Sony Playstation 4.
And as we’re always lecturing, it’s cheaper to buy produce in season. So learn to play around with some new items.
Great all year:
